Always start with checking the laws and enforcement in your county. Here in CO it varies so much, that in my county they don't give a f@ck and in the next they get health inspections.
Another thing that helped me a lot was writing a business plan. It laid out all my wants, needs, hopes, etc. As well as making me look at and develop budgets, sales projections, overall costs, etc. Basically running the shop all the way thru from just in my head to on paper. Plus it can help in talking to a prospective landlord.
Past that, it's all in the unique situation. I got the bulk of my start up out of school loans.

Best of luck,
RTR

That's a badass website you've got set up by the way. Is that sitecube thing pretty user friendly?

With my plan, I picked an overhead that was average to the area and size I was looking for, and what I was willing/able to risk. Then looked at what I typically used in supplies in a month, added things like phone/internet, ins, misc. Then you add 25% to all of the expenses and subtract 25% from all income, this helps to keep things in perspective. If you have Excel, I can send you a file that has a years projections from my biz plan. You can then use it as a template. pm me with your email if you're interested.

What's a good monthly estimate spent on supplies for a 3 man shop?

thanks, and the supplies depends on the artists, how much they use and how busy you are and what you required in your state. ive been keeping track and alone myself i spend like 200ish in needles and other small things, inks i bought the big 4 and 8oz bottles and even then you only need to get the ones you need when you run out.
