Default Apprenticeship

Given my lack of loitering skill combined with not having any friends in the tattoo industry I am guessing that an apprenticeship is impossible.

Is this an accurate hypothesis?

If anyone has any advice on how to become an apprentice without doing any sexual favors and while being broke please enlighten me.

Here is an example of my artwork

no, it isnt impossible.

i wrote the article in the following link a long time ago, and people have seemed to really agree with it. in fact, I THINK IT SHOULD BE A STICKY... i hand it to people ALL THE TIME. if they dont have the dedication to read it and adhere to it, I usually never hear from them again, and they just dont cut the mustard.

Alright I have read the guide. The two major points I saw were to draw and persist.
Persistence, some talent, charm and hygiene should get me in the door?
How long would this process take usually?

I have acquired all the basic equipment for tattooing and was about to begin throwin some serious ink into unsuspecting grapefruit and honey dew melons, is this okay? Should I just box up what I have and wait for instructions from whoever I end up aggravating/dazzling into saying yes?

I have noticed All or Nothing is hiring an apprentice.

threw that in just for funsies

Conor - what a great read!

Thanks for putting this information together and sharing it freely. I'm just at the very early beginnings of pursuing an apprenticeship locally. I've looked at several shops in the area. I've introduced myself, met the artists and reviewed portfolios. I've found one that I'm asking (pending response because its a huge responsibility and I'm sure there are many things involved from a shop and legal/liability perspective that needs to be thought out as well) and really respect his work. We are very much alike artistically and I've gotten several tattoos from him already. There is synergy there, as you mentioned in your post. I'm really hoping it works out with this person and if not, I can respect that as well. I'll continue looking.

Sample of my artwork (pen). I love the fact too that you emphasize 'drawing' drawing drawing.

Thanks again man!

I am not an artists, but I would say wait until you get that apprenticeship. If you start teaching yourself now, you may teach yourself the wrong things, which will make it harder to change over to the right way when you are an apprentice. The less you know about using a tattoo machine now, the better.

Though I would think learning to tune and repair machines might come in handy later. But don't quote me on that.
