Hot oil dipping frames?
I have 2 old national eagle frames laying around (just iron, no finish) And I have been wanting to do the hot oil finish on them.
I've used gun blueing before and liked how it turned out. But I've actually never asked anyone how to do the hot oil thing. I was always under the assumption that you just heated the frames and then dipped. But I don't know to be honest.
Any help would be great, thanks

Re: Hot oil dipping frames?
Repeat if necessary. Flare ups can happen, so be ready for a fire.

Re: Hot oil dipping frames?
Thanks guys!, I've been wanting to do this for awhile, but kinda wanted to get some extra knowledge on the subject before I acted on it. I'll have to post photos later. I'll be back home next week to do this. Thanks again

Re: Hot oil dipping frames?
Definately, lol! I could imagine it could be a bit of a fire hazard indoors as well.

as long as you dont reach the melting point of the material being used in the machine, which i dont even think is possible. but yah it should work fine

Re: Hot oil dipping frames?
If you repeat the process you may ruin the even finish, because it will burn your past coat, but some times this gives the machine some character.
