Black and gray advice?
There's one area where I'm still really not comfortable, and that's getting a nice, smooth gradient over a large area. This is a piece I was working on this weekend. The girl had me stop while I was still working on the child's hand, but so far I'm not at all happy with it. It's too blotchy. And recommendations on what I'm doing wrong? Do I just need to slow down more? Minus breaks, I spend right around 3 hours on this...
And this is to give you an idea of size...

Re: Black and gray advice?
looks good. what needle group did you use? for big stuff like that, i run a 15 mag real slow in my B&G shader. if i want it really light i barely stretch the skin at all. when i want it a bit darker, stretch it tight and concentrate the area. i use a four wash system, straight black, half cap, 4 drops , 2 drops. but i recently started using the silver back and i like there step down as well. but anyway, it does look good bro.

Re: Black and gray advice?
Thanks guys. On that I was using an 11 mag. But it has a short taper. I really need to get some long tapers for things like that I think. It would probably help.

Re: Black and gray advice?
for big smooth areas of black and gray nothing works better for me than a very fast machine with an extremely short stroke, and the largest long taper mag i can fit comfortably in the area.

Re: Black and gray advice?
Yeah, I'm using a Next Generation Eclipse. I really need to get some long taper mags. I'll probably order some tonight.
