Thumbs down Outlines

I am getting a tattoo that has the American Flag in it. I have found several styles that I like. I like the flags without any black outlines. A real flag is only red, white, and blue. I asked a local shop and they advised me to get the outline. She said that the colors would fade and look like crap in 5 years without the outlines in the flag. Is this true? What should I do if I want the tattoo without the black outline? Please Advise

First off, if a shop is telling you that colors will fade without outlines, find another shop. It seems as if whomever you went to does not have advanced tattooability and just fed you some bulls&!t..

yea bro.. most portraits are done with little to no outline.. thats how it should be treated.. its called bloodlining.. tell them kids at the shop to up theyre game and give your boy amek 200 or so$$$ so a real tattooer can benefit from the whole enchilada. naw.. bro if you know the guys or something.. just tell them you want it handled like a portrait. and if they say boo hoo.. they must be skared.

also they could just be trying to get you to go with a piece closer to a style they are comfortable. i mean.. alll those stars.. is crazy work. haha. maybe they wanna do a traditional style which consists of bold lines and color. which would look good too. if they do it right.

I have never done a flag with outlines unless I am going for a traditional style. They heal up fine and look very realistic, just don't try and do it to small. So yeah find another shop.

That is what I was thinking. I will be finding another shop. I am currently at Ft. Benning. Are there any suggestions where I should go?

Fly to Atlanta and have the AON limo pick you up. I hear your tattoo will be actually cheaper than mine will be. And I live in Atlanta....

Aaahhh, Ft. Benning. Not to disrespect any artists out there. But I would suggest getting out of the military town. Military towns are like tourist areas. Most of the shops and artists (and I use the term "artists" loosely) don't really care about the quality of the art because they will always have a constant changing clientle. Now I'm sure there are some exceptions. But, I have been tattooed in Ft. Benning, Bragg, Campbell and Bliss. It was all the same just mediocre tattooing. This was 10 to 13 years ago though, way before I ever started tattooing. Anyway your in GA. AON won't do you wrong. Benning was where I got my paratrooper wings tattoo. The artists almost spelled paratrooper wrong. Nuff said

I they feel that they have to do an outline, then tell em to do color outline. ..but really, listen to the rest of these guys, thats already a red flag to not go to this guy. Portfolios are everything, man.. Look before you inquire.
