Liners???
So I usually use a tight 7 for most line work, but loose 5's will do the same... any reason why one would be better that the other??

i use tight 5's tight 7's and sometimes a three. i prefer the tight groupings, as i feel i can get smoother points in my line work....easier in and out when lining...i think a lot of the time the "old school" style is very loose needle oriented and it leaves these "just ended" lines. no point, no easy in, no easy out. sometimes that look is desired, but i prefer a different look. its all preference...but i think a tight needle is just a little more versatile than a loose one.
HAVE FUN TATTOOING, your work looks good!

Re: Liners???
yep, i agree, but i use 5's and 8's. i also sometimes use 5r shader to sculpt thicker lines, but you have to go slow, or the line wont heal solid.

Re: Liners???
I pride myself on being a very versatile artist. And with versatility comes different tools. I use tight 5's and 7's but for more traditional things I go with a loose 5 or 7. Plan your piece out and look at it. But you have to recognize what tool your using and compensate for it. Don't get stuck with one thing. what works for others might not work for you. Both groupings have advantages and disadvantages. I don't think I answered your question still half asleep. sorry ha ha.

Re: Liners???
a loose 5 is going to make darker lines than a tight 7.

Re: Liners???
allows more ink in the skin with the needle tips further apart. learned it from guy a's reinventing the tattoo.

Re: Liners???
i dont see how it could make it darker, wider maybe but darker? whether its a tight or a loose, you still go the same depth. so how would it be darker

Re: Liners???
it doesnt have anything to do with depth. it just allows for more ink to enter the skin. also a 7 does more damage to the skin because the needles that are in the center are hitting the skin more times than nessesary. read the book if you havnt, its full of usefull information no matter how long you have been tattooing.
