Not getting personal, but if you're tattooing, you should already know this...This is soooooooo basic. Getting to the question though. The front spring is the timing spring. It determines the speed of the machine. Thick spring...hard hitting..(Liners)...Thin Spring....Soft hitting....(shaders)...I'm not one for mis matching front and rear springs although a lot of artist do...whatever works for you. I usually run 18 gauge on liners and shaders, although my armature bar weights are different. Light a-bar on liners and heavey on the shaders....
This may help, but getting in a studio is where you need to be. If you were, basic questions like this, you would already know. If you are in a studio, then ask questions, if they can't answer these type questions, then seek out another studio to work at.
