haven't purchased yet, but i'm goin to the gun range this saturday to try a few out. Probably won't purchase til the income tax check comes in. I've been savin my cash for my new tattoo from Mike Devries at the Detroit Convention. And i've also been tryin to talk the girlfriend into doin the gun range thing with me...i think if i could just get her there and let her shoot once she'll be hooked.

Check into some of theother polymer guns as well. Sigs are my favorite for a "metal" firearm. But for lightweight and capacity. Look into Smith and Wesson M&P pistols. As well as Sprinfield Armory's XDs. They are both reliable well made firearms. If you shop around you can find both for under $500.

The M&P has a factory rbate for $50 + 2 mags right now. So that is the equivalent of around $90-$100 of right now.

You can also buy off of on-line stores that are out of state. Sometimes you can find a good deal. Have them ship it to a local FFL. Then have them to the transfer (usually $15-$25.) Saves you from having to pay tax since it is a out of state purchase.

first handgun recomendation:

Smith and Wesson 357/38 6 shot with a four inch barrell

you can shoot 38s out of it so recoil will be a non issue

you can load it with 357s when you get comfortable. and that will stop just about anything, especially 6 of them

revolvers are WAY simpler than automatic pistols...

after mastering that I would move to a glock 9,40 or 45 and then onto EVERYTHING ELSE.

ps weight and concealability are non issues for a first firearm as someone new to the game shouldnt be toting one around anyways.

Now I do not have a gun so excuse my ignorance (I was in the German Air force so I have shot a bunch of s&*t). How do you keep the guns out of the hands of your kids? If they are in a gun safe, then won't it take way too long to get them out in case you need one? Maybe I am missing something? Do you keep a baseball bat next to your bed, just in case you don't make it to the gun safe in time?
