i roll with kingpin's rounded mags. i find them to be more effective for b and g than a flat mag. they dont seem to pack the color in as solid in one spot which seems make the transition from darks to lights smoother

I've just recently started using Mithra's curved bugpin magnums and really like them so far. VERY easy to get smooth, gradient shading.

I must be the only artist that HATES bugpins for B&G. Never tried them with color though.

when you just ride that sweetspot, where the needles feels like its floating on the skin all by itself, then I think that its not very important if you use bugpins or not. I seriously think that bugpins as a must have to bng are for tattooers that tend to bury the needle quite a bit more than I would imagin you do Deran.

I agree with Deran, I used to use the bugpins a bit but I felt like it didn't deposit the layers of grey as efficiently as I'm used to. As long as your needles have nice long tapers I find regular #12 works just fine. The bugpins suck for color, not enough saturation with any pigment that's even a little thick.

If any one is looking for a good brand go with mithra. that is if you're like me and too lazy to make your own. try out the 9mag bug pins in a 7 mag tube or for alittle bigger 15mag bugpin in a 13mage tube. its a really good company.
