Default Gray Wash Sets?

Looking for recommendations on who to go with for a gray-scale set. Just looking for something a little more consistent then my cutting black with water. Also Id like to know if anyone's tried Starbrites "Iron Butterfly" inks and what you think of them? Thx in advance.

Cool, was lookin at the Alla set but may just go with Silverback. Was lookin at some of the color washes out there too, any experience with whats out there? And curious about what you disliked bout the Iron colors? I really like the blood red, orange and the rockabilly blue and green but can see where some of the others are rather weak.

i don't use the color washes, i just dilute my colors, i don't know, i just didnt like iron butterfly at all. just a personal preference, from what Ive seen there's a few people happy with them but not many, Ive been using Waverly, fusion, eternal and intenze and a few others from other company's but i just didn't like irons butterfly.

A color wash should consist of the same tone that you are working coming out of a solid field of color, or if you want to do a full zone of a wash it's simple as setting a cap of your preferred tone to be diluted. So, a weakened set of washed out colors is not necessary and would actually work to your disadvantage in situations.

Normally Id agree but looking at it for tint\ tone in certain pieces. Setting a cap works well but would be lovely if when I came back to the image after 4 weeks I still had the exact same tint to work with, of course I could just create a large batch myself but was curious if anyone had tried any yet. Thx tho and appreciate the solid points you make.

I don't really get that. The longer you work it, it changes tint. Otherwise tattoos would only have 3 or 4 shades of gray and that would suck. You shouldn't have to perfectly match a cap of graywash.

I'm gonna have to disagree on this one deran. As you work an area with a wash it will change tone untill it is 100% saturated with that tone. After that it's not going to get any darker. The reason why there are so many tones is that within those (let's say 4 like you said) there are infinite levels of saturation shades and you can mix inbetween tones on the fly. I've seen awesome black and grey come out of a guy who just has caps of black and a rinse cup.

thats true, but it takes a whole different kind of technique. i do black and grey the same way i blend color, ass backwords, but it works for me, the whole black in one cap and rinse cup just does'nt work for me, i cant get the proper tones i need, because every time you dip into your rinse cup, you darken the shade of that rinse cup.

Thats true but Im looking more at a color wash\ tonality...less opacity lets say. As for gray wash def agree and after a couple pieces I did this weekend think I might be wasting money getting a gray wash set.
