Do you keep a baseball bat next to your bed, just in case you don't make it to the gun safe in time?

well i have no kids either, knock knock, but the people that i know with kids, are responsible gun owners, and they teach their kids to respect the gun and not to touch it. they also tend to keep their guns in a safe but keep a few out and WELL HIDDEN, but easily accessable incase of an emergency.
i too have guns out in the open at all times.... 3 right next to my bed....

Re: Hand Gun for a Beginner
I don't have kids, i'm not lookin to carry it on me, I do know a couple people i wouldn't mind pistol whippin though(that always looks cool in movies), and i don't plan on leavin it sittin around. I get stressed at work and with life sometimes and i can't think of a better way to let off some steam. Stop at the gun range, pull some trigger, and go home so my girlfriend can start askin me questions and tellin me how everyone at her work has it in for her 2 seconds after i open the door.

Re: Hand Gun for a Beginner
A beginner gun....depends on what your goal is...assassin, Body guard, target shooter, fast draw competition, or just a gun to make you feel safe for protection...lol
If personal protection is the goal...
Brandon is correct and giving the best advice....wheel gun 38/357
Pawn shops are full of them and you can get one reasonably cheap. Accuracy won't be that important at close range so brands won't matter much. Charter Arms in stainless steel are great for having around...no rust and can still get them cheap. Then later on get an auto with multiple clips in big caliber.
For me personally...you never see what or how many I am concealing and in my house you will never see a gun. But if I need one quick, rest assured they are hidden in plain site. I had kids...taught them respect for weapons and as soon as they could hold one in their hands, we went shooting. They saw and felt the power of a gun and witnessed it tear cans, glass, and trees to shreds. Never had a problem with them "handling" them after that.

our son knows not to point, handle or even talk about our guns unless we say so. our girls are to young so they don't know about them but julian has respect and a little fear of them and what they can do.
