Re: second, third or fourth pass
I charge cost plus a little bit extra. I find it's quick and dont cost me a lot plus keeps my client happy.

Re: second, third or fourth pass
why charge cost...so how does your conversation go...."yes! i will do that tattoo, but when you come back, you need to pay me agian"....thats not good at all........my clients would be pist if i charged something thats my fault...its already bad enough that they need to come back...and dont expect a tip....50% of my clients are african american, you should tell them that its not going to look the same when its healed.....and if there too dark, dont do the tattoo.....

Re: second, third or fourth pass
To be honest I have never tattooed really Dark Skin, and if I do need a second pass its usually caused by bad aftercare, hence not my fault in the first place. Why should I give a guy time for not listening to me in the first place? Everybody to their own I suppose. I know a shop near me who says tough and charges full whack for the second pass, and is supposedly a Tribal specialist......well i'll keep my thoughts on that one to myself.
If I think i cant get what they want in the first place then I will say so, I'm not out to fleece anyone, all I want to do is the best job I can for me and the client dude.

Re: second, third or fourth pass
the last shop i worked at offered a flat daily rate, which was based on an 8 hr day and if compared to the hourly rate was basically buy 4 hours get 4 free. the catch was, if the client tapped out, that was it, that was their day. when they came in to finish, we either quoted them for time left with a slight discount or if it was a large piece and we knew we were going to be working for several more hours, another daily rate. no one EVER complained about this unless they were a cheap ass from the beginning. we also explained to them at the first meeting that the tattoo may take multiple sittings if we could tell that it would, so it wasnt a surprise when it did. we had appointment and deposit slips we filled out with each customer and wrote EVERYTHING down on them so there wouldnt be any confusion later on.
also, and this is my personal take on things, after you have been tattooing a few years, you should be able to tell if a client used poor judgement during the healing process, i.e. picking scabs, poor hygiene, etc etc. if this is the case, charge that f@#ker. if you look at it and can tell its your fault, fix it for free. if you cant tell if it was their fault or yours, take the high road and fix it for free. the next tattoo they get, if it does the same thing, you know its their fault. most people are mentally challenged and must be held by the hand and walked through life and spoken to as if they are 2 years old. as sad as this seems, if you are nice to them they will tell 10 people, if you are a d**k they will tell 100. true story.

Re: second, third or fourth pass
If your work requires a second pass, you should use darker colors to start.
you need more midtones and more darks.
then you dont have to worry about it.
or dont finish it! then they have to come back hahahahaa

if a tattoo heals light due to my negligence, i'd do it for free. if it is out of my control, or just part of the piece, id charge, albeit a little lower than the norm.

the tattoo work you posted would be superlight on a pale canvas, and on a dark one with would be even softer... have you seen the ENCHILADA where I talk about tattooing darker skin?
