Should i start with something small and once i get the knowledge that comes with handling a hand gun move up to one that ya'll wrote about. A .22 that seems to get alot of talk is this one: http://www.berettausa.com/product/sp...eos_detail.htm
thanks for input, more, more, more.......

I wouldnt suggest a .22, if you only want it to target shoot with it then I guess you could go with it, but if its also going to be a gun you are gonna keep for protection/range, I wouldnt ever go with a .22. But thats just my opinion, I would go with a .40 or .45.

i totally agree with devin. i cant hit the broad side of a barn with 22 and it has nothing to do with how well i do with the 40. i would recommend beginning with something that has some amount of recoil that is at least closer to the size that you will end up staying with.

yeah, I really prefer the glock, but you should get whatever you are comfortable with.

Re: Hand Gun for a Beginner
the only bad thing about the ruger is that the butt of the gun is a little bigger than the glock or a sig so take into consideration how big your hands are or better yet, go to a gun store and see which one ('s) fit best in your hand.

Re: Hand Gun for a Beginner
Go to a good range and ask them if you can try a few… make them aware you are a beginner and they should be able to provide you with a good assortment… shoot them and then go with what you are comfortable with… You would not buy a car with out test-driving it, would you? Do the same with the gun!
I agree with everyone else, I like the Glock but I would have an issue with the trigger safety for a beginner, rather than a standard safety on the slide.
My first one was a Ruger 9mm, pre Brady bill, so I have a double stack mag … I still have it an love it… but got so use to shooting it that when I went to hold any other gun with a standard mag… it felt small in my hands!
Test-drive them first!
