So for a project of this magnitude/detail.. would it probably be best that I physically relocate down to Atlanta to get work done on a regular basis vs flying out of state from Alaska like once or twice a year?

If I play it right, maybe I could fly out twice a year, but get work done on different body parts on different days for like 4 consecutive days in a row.

I dunno.. what are your thoughts.. what would be the most efficient way to complete something like this? I'm thinking of it as a lifelong project.. probably doing several touchups/reworking layers over many sessions to keep it fresh and bright.. so either method could work equally as well?

They've done full, extremely detailed sleeves, in a matter of one weekend. I'm sure they can knock this out, too. It may just be a matter of staying interested, since it is kind of the same thing over and over, and may start to get repetitive.

Yeah I can see how it could be mentally taxing for an artist. But I'm hoping that I could at least find someone who could be excited and motivated enough to do it, and have good technical expertise to boot.

I have never seen Vince V. post any kind of blackwork designs, but I have no doubt he or Joe Waulken would find this to be a challenging and exciting project, since not only is it tribal but also incorporates full heavy dark colors with electric blends on the edges into something that really hasn't been experimented in the tattooing world.

Lucky Diamond Rich has his whole body tattooed black, the enigma blue... lizard man green.. but I've yet to see someone with blackwork and textured color work on the whole body with no skin showing at all. Dave Bastard seems to have his own little twist with larger blackwork designs.. but I haven't been able to find any references to anything specifically of what I'm looking to transform myself into.

I was thinking even maybe a two-way collab between Joe Waulken and Vince V.. I bet those two together could pull this off and even then some.

I have no doubt they would be willing to do this, and as a client I would be willing to spend as much money as necessary over a long period of time to accomplish it.

But that's good to know I can at least live where it's cold.. Atlanta is too hot and muggy for my liking.. but I'm weird anyways so it don't matter

Just gotta save my money and make the phone call to AoN when I'm ready.. pitch the idea.. and start the process.

Here are a couple of the piece Vince did for my friend. They aren't great pics of it, and I apologize if her album is private and they aren't viewable.

That's a nice phoenix. Vince's work just keeps getting better and better for sure...

Joe Waulken hasn't really updated much of his work but I heard he absolutely loves tribal / blackwork designs.

this does not need to be ONE artist

everyone here can do that and you can jump around like crabs.

Sorry I don't get your reference.. what do you mean "jump around like crabs". You mean its so detailed.. it will probably be extremely painful and I might jump around all over the chair? I can sit pretty well but after 8 hours who knows..

He means you can jump from one artist to another artist, so that you don't have one guy sitting there for hours and hours. You can have multiple guys working on it at once.

A lot of people booth hop at the shop, and/or get artists to collaborate on pieces. Especially large pieces such as this.

Ahhhhhh ok I get it. haha..

Good idea.. I think it would suit a collaboration very well. Normally most tattoo shops have you "stick" with the artist you choose and then might consider booth hopping / artist switching "betrayal", but this is AoN so I totally agree that it's an interesting concept, and would allow something of this magnitude to get completed much sooner than having just one artist do it.

Granted I would have to communicate a few specific things I want out of this (dark concentrate "cool spectrum color" center in negative space with medium halo and thin waverly japanese neon pink highlight right up on the edge of the shapes with the use of a few select 'cool spectrum colors').. but it shouldn't be difficult at all I wouldn't imagine. Just gotta make sure everyone is on the same page for the most part.

In general terms.. when you get a large amount of work like this done all at once, does it have to be "reworked" several times (layering in pigment over time) to get the color to stay in solid, or should it normally only need a few touch ups here and there, with the first pass usually achieving most of the initial saturation?
